This video is about a dog named Ricochet who was trained to be a service dog but didn’t quite make the grade. But, she did find a high purpose for her life nonetheless. I think you’ll like it.

Vinny update

Vinny (see below) came thru her tail amputation operation just fine and she’s doing great.  She’s so playful and loving.  Please think about giving her the good home she deserves.

Annie

The play ‘Annie’ is showing at Brunswick Community College’s Odell Williamson Auditorium.  There have been two performances so far and everyone says ’it’s great!’.   The person who plays Annie, Hannah Brown is a SOAR volunteer and her dog Sandy is a SOAR honor graduate.   Hannah’s mother Mimi and her brother Dan are also in the production.  So, lots of SOAR connections to this play.   There will be three more performances; Friday (13th) and Saturday (14th) at 7:30 and Sunday (15th) at 3. Please come out and see it; you won’t be disappointed.

Vinny

Look at Vinny’s tail.  It is so sick and beyond recovery or hope.   It will be amputated within the next day or so.   We do not know how it became this way.  Vinny was found on Ocean Isle Beach and Jeannine brought him to SOAR.  Despite being encumbered and handicapped by such an awful appendage Vinny is playful and happy.  He’s very friendly and loving.  Jeannine has done everything to help Vinny’s tail but the vets have told her it is hopeless; the tail is dead.   So, tomorrow probably, Vinny will have an operation and we’re all praying for a successful outcome and a long and happy life ahead for Vinny.

Hope From Helen

Hope From Helen recently sent us $500 and we are so grateful.  Hope From Helen started as Hope For Helen.   Helen Butler, a much loved Wrightsville Beach surf shop owner, was diagnosed with stage three lung cancer in 2005.  She had no insurance or means to pay for the necessary treatment so her many friends banded together to raise money to help her.   And they raised a lot, $58,000.  Helen also contracted breast cancer but it was complications from the treatments for both cancers that eventually led to her death in 2006.  Her friends, in her memory and honor, decided to change from Hope For Helen to Hope From Helen and to continue raising money for worthwhile charitable causes and organizations.  They have given big sums to us several times and we’re so appreciative.  Helen must have been a wonderful person to have so inspired her friends to raise so much money for charities all over the world.   Please go to www.hopefromhelen.com and read about Helen Butler and this wonderful organization and the charities they have helped.
